Acquario Restaurant

Hi I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Mine was great but very busy, as all of my four children had to make valentine’s cards for their classmates.  Then there were the parties…OMG! Also, I am chairing a huge event at their school this week called Bookshare.  We have been collecting and sorting books since September, and this week we are selling them to the students and parents at the school. Although this is a fundraiser it is also a recycling, or “sharing”, of books. Our family loves to read so this is very important to us.

I did promise to give you some highlights of the wine dinner last Tuesday. This dinner was based on Acquario’s Chef’s, Chef Phil, summer travels. First was a cheese course, consisting of cheeses from Chicago and the surrounding area: Wisconsin chipotle cheddar, Wisconsin goat blue cheese and Wisconsin petit frere. The second course was Boston clam chowder with poached Maine lobster. For the third course: a braised pork short rib with fava bean cream sauce was served along with salad of haricot vert, tomato tartare, and chive oil.  This course was inspired by his trip to Napa. The main course came from his trip to New York; bone in beef tenderloin steak diane with parsnip puree, rainbow baby carrots, and hen of the woods mushroom sauce. The dessert course was inspired by his trip to Costa Rica.  It was a banana mousse layered with costa rican pineapples, papaya chutney, caramelized banana,and coffee ice cream. Five different wines were paired with the five courses. Each time a course was presented our Chef Phil told a little about his travels and the food. Then Pandora, the wine sommelier, would talk about the wine that was featured. I was really sorry to have missed this event!

Last night  I ran over to the resort to see how everything was going, and it was very busy with a festive atmosphere. There was definitely romance in the air!!  All of the ladies received  a long stem rose when entering the dining room, and Chef Phil offered twin lobster tails, surf and turf, and chateaubriand for two in addition to the regular menu. Everything looked delicious and beautiful. While dining our guests also enjoyed music by our pianist Leslie Butler. When he finished in the dining room he then moved into the lounge and played for those who were still celebrating Valentine’s Day. Because I have to get up very early to get my kids ready for school I could not participate in this late night celebration… After bookshare is over I think I will need to visit the spa for a caviar pedicure.
