My Red Cross Experience

Hi!  I am sorry that a few hours turned into a few days……I had such a wonderful time last weekend at my first Red Cross Summit.  I am so grateful to be part of such an amazing group of intelligent, dynamic women.  I   already mentioned that Laura Bush spoke to us.  She captivated everyone’s attention.  I don’t think there was a sound in the room the whole entire time she addressed us.  Saturday we had a beautiful brunch in the ballroom of The Mandarin Oriental.  Gail McGovern, American Red Cross President and CEO, spoke to us about the “State of the Red Cross.  It was very interesting.  After brunch we had a breakout session where we listened to Ann Compton from ABC News interview the First Lady of Quebec and also Laura Liswoood, who is the author of  ”Women World Leaders” .  Laura  has actually interviewed  15 women in the world that have been  Heads of State.  She was fascinating!!!!  That evening we enjoyed the most beautiful dinner at the National Portrait Gallery.  What a night it was!!   When we arrived in the courtyard we were greeted by the sounds of the U.S. Marine Band, “The President’s Own”.  It was founded by an Act of Congress in 1798 and is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization.  The Red Cross Chairman, Bonnie McElveen-Hunter introduced our speaker, Admiral Mullen.   Bonnie  was appointed to her position by The President of the United States.  She has also served as Ambassador to Finland.  She is one of the most  beautiful woment I have ever met and very inspiring.  The Red Cross does a lot more for so many people that I was not even aware of until this conference.  I am in awe of Bonnie!!!  While dining we were entertained by Jo Dee Messina.  Because our south Florida chapter won “Best Chapter in the World”  we were invited back stage to be photographed with Jo Dee.  It was truly a magical evening and weekend that I will never forget!!!
