Hi My shopping trip was a huge success!! Before I tell you what I bought I will tell you a little about the history of The Resort Shop. When I was in high school my mother and I opened a boutique for ladies at the resort . It would have been where the spa is today. We sold beautiful, sophisticated clothing and of course, a lot of the highest end bathing suits and cover-ups. This was in the day when a gentleman could not eat in the dining room without a jacket. The atmosphere at the resort was much more formal than it is today. Sometimes I kind of miss those days. I am sure we all do. We have found over the years that our guests enjoy more of a casual elegance. Because of the warmer temperatures and the tropical feeling they want to dress down a bit. About 22 years ago the shop, which was named Debbies’ Dress Shop (my mom and I are both named Debbie) underwent a major transformation. First, we actually changed its location to a much larger area in the conference lobby. We also included a men’s and children’s section to the shop. Hence , the name changed to The Resort Shop!
Now on to my shopping spree..With the help of our mother/daughter managing team, Elizabeth and Amber , I found the most beautiful, colorful Trina Turk bathing suit with gold beading. I just had to have the cover-up to match. To finish the outfit I chose gold Lily Pulitzer shoes that fit perfectly and were to die for and an Eric Javits hat with a reallly wide brim. I looked like the beach version of Cinderella! At that moment I felt guilty not buying my husband and kids something new so off to the men’s section I went. I picked a Tommy Bahama camp shirt and swim trunks for Chip and Kate Mack matching bikinis for the girls in the kid’s section. I ran out of time before I got to the little boys so I will go back for them. Also, we have 2 birthday parties on saturday so I will need to get gifts. The Resort Shop has the best gift selection in town. We were actually voted Best Boutique in Fort Lauderdale last year. To have managers like Elizabeth and Amber, who have worked there 15 and 12 years respectively, is also such an asset. I am off to pick up kids but will update you after I have my strawberry daquiri tonight, which is the drink special at the Promednade Bar. TGIF!!!!Deb
